Greetings all,

I want to sell my D2x but really have no idea what a sensible price is. I had it up for 1400GBP but got no interest. It's propbably a bad time to be selling one with the D3/300 but it simply isnt getting used so its time to part with it.

Its got less than 5k actualtions on fully boxed etc and is mint. I have seen them up for 1400 but thats in a dealers such as grays of westminster (where this came from) but oif course you'd get a warantee with that.

Apologies for this reading like an ad, but I'm a bit stumped. I want to sell it of course but i dont want to give it away.

Not selling to fund D3 in case anyones wondering, I'll be sticking with my D1x for the time being, not much time for photography at the moment sadley.

TIA - Neil

Why not ring up grays of westminster etc to get a trade price?

Suspect it may be well below a grand from them though frown

It'll be nearer 800 than 1400. D300 is now 1020 new, and I'd buy a new D300 over a new D2X, let alone a second hand one.

(speaking as a D2X owner)

No. Prefer the D3 - but at £1000 the D300 is so cheap for what you get.

ETA... I could buy a couple and not need to change lenses scratchchin

I saw you mentioned that you had bought your first proper camera last month Dan... any more photos to show us?

Be interested to see what the D300 can do smile

Not really had a chance frown Bought a flash on saturday, took photos at a party in London and cocked them all up I think. I left auto ISO on and I've not yet checked the pics but think it ramped the ISO to 3200 on them all until I realised and turned it off, so expecting a noise nightmare. Also I was copying the techniques of http://planetneil.com/tangents/ trying to get the softness he manages. Unfortunately I didn't realise he wasn't using a difuser as well as pointing it backwards over his shoulder. Net affect is that light was scattered forward compromising the subtlety, and also the batteries in the flash died early as I think it was having to do max power bursts to componsate for pointing the wrong way and being difused. Also I put a gel on the flash but not sure its worked as it was a mix of luminescant light and daylight.

So er, no not likely to have any pics I want to share wink Sure am learning a lot though!

p.s. Maybe you can answer this for me. With a flash can I just go to manual mode, set the shutter + aperture I want and the flash will sort it all out by injecting enough light? If so how does one make a call on a sensible ISO and know that you aren't asking too much of the flash? Been tryign to find an answer to this and failed so far.

p.s. D3 looks amazing but I'm sure I'd be making the same mistakes and I'm sure that price is set to come down radically. Just look at the D300.
