Competition question....
Discussion
Evinin all, recently a friend of mine uploaded a picture for a competition on a website (www.picture.com) After he received a leter stating his picture was a semi-finalist and was to be published in a book I decided that entering a picture myself was a good idea, now they replied to me saying my picture has reached the semi-finals and my picture will be in the same book (endless jouneys). My question is do you guys think its just all done to try and make you buy the book or is it legit? and what do you reckon to the photo i entered?

Without seeing the T&C's of the competition it's hard to say it's either a way to get you to buy a US produced book so you can say - look there's my picture or it's a simple way of the site owners creating their own image library with everyone elses pictures.
Having said that - that's the largest list of first prize winners I've seen for a long long time.

They dont ask for money rather just give you the option to buy the book and your photo as a gallery sized print
Funny this as I recently reached the semi finals with a photo of my cat and Im being published in the same book??
I was wondering if it was pure bullshit myself, but they give you the "option" to buy the book and the "option" to add a photographers profile
Is this shit too good to be true?
I was so happy that I was to be published....

What happens if you say you don't want to buy the book, but request a modest fee for the use of your photo? Genuine publishers know they have to pay something.
I suppose they consider your payment the fact you have one of you photos in the book, doesnt seem to be a negative to not buying the book other than not having a copy.tyre_tread said:
The book is a collection of photos of anyone who send them in and buys the book.
I have seen one of these books and they play on people's vanity about having their pictures published.
Some of the pictures weren't even in focus!
In short, its a con!
Well, they send you a permission slip that you're to fill out and return for them to use the photo, which is sat on my desk awaiting dispatch, which isnt going to happen I have seen one of these books and they play on people's vanity about having their pictures published.
