LowePro Dry Zone 100 and 200
Discussion
morning everyone
I'm looking to get a decent backpack style bag - it needs to accomodate a 40D, 75-300, 28-105,100 Macro and a speedlight - have room for a little wide angle lens I expect to add and to have a tripod attachment
ideally it will also have room for some waterproofs/a little bit of non camera kit
I know that most of the Trekkers would have the capacity but as we are off to a rain forest and we do some mountain trips with inclement weather encountered I'm attracted to the fully waterproof qualities of the Dry range and at least from a quick look it seemed to be a better bet for me than the Nature Trekker AW as that cover seems a bit of a pain to use
has anyone tried one ? if so is it practical or do you feel that its too compromised with the tough zips and stiffer material for the benefit of the waterproofing - i saw one on-line review on Morris Photography that said it was harder to open and access the kit than the AW styles but the reviewer still rated it
would what I have listed all fit in the smaller 100 or do i need the larger 200 ?
I did a search but didn't see any threads with this range mentioned

I'd say go for the 200 with the kit you have listed.
Do try before you buy as I found the zips were very stiff and sometimes difficult to get open. Uisng the cover on an Mini trekker is not too difficult and can be done on the move without taking the rucksack off. It'll not be as waterproof as the Dry range mind

Hey Ian!
I've got a Lowepro Computrecker. It's a fantastic bag but my main criticism is the lack of extra space for food and drink supplies. I have found the back pocket (designed for laptop) to be OK for this. I used to have a Billingham 550 and this was amazing for carrying extra supplies when you were out and about all day miles from anywhere selling food and there was space inside and on top of the kit for a light coat too.
My advice would be to go to a store like Calumet and get them to advise you on the best model or even get them to put all the kit in the bag and see how it feels for weight and comfort. If the food and extra coat are a real problem, you could carry all the camera gear in your bag and your partner could carry food and coats in theirs.
Your trip sounds like real fun.

I have the vertex 300 AW click
Its pretty big but I can get everything in it and it has a waist belt too for extra support, I carry 2 camera bodies, various lenses, filters, flash-guns, laptop, tripod and loads of sundries. With all the kit it is heavy but once on your back its ok. It has loads of fixing points too, so I bought some strong clips from a hiking shop and hang my weatherproofs/drinks/food on the outside. It is a brilliant bag and easy to use.
As EmmaP says, best go try at Calumet, they have loads of choices

I've got a Dryzone 100, a Dryzone 200 maybe too large to pass as hand luggage and you don't ever want to consider checking expensive camera gear in. I've packed a 1dmk2, 70-200L 2.8IS, 28-70L 2.8, 1.4 extender, flash gun and a ibook across the top of it all many times without incident. The bag has a standard internal with zip, then an outer thick rubber skin with a zip that needs to be lubricated. Travelled many times with it to the Amazon and it works very well.I'm looking to get a decent backpack style bag - it needs to accomodate a 40D, 75-300, 28-105,100 Macro and a speedlight - have room for a little wide angle lens I expect to add and to have a tripod attachment

Just to add, I also take a Nova 5AW in my suitcase. When I go out , I load the SLR and the lens it will use that day into the Nova. Access is quick and you don't need to put the bag down.
Which rainforest will you be visiting?
