New lens .....now to the gym to lift it !

Picked up a Sigma 120-300 F2.8 last night, seriously nice lens, but didnt realise how bloody heavy the damn thing is.

Gonna give it a try out at Silverstone on Thursday so off to the gym in the morning

oooh how heavy? I know its 105mm for filters :O

Looking at one on trademe for $1500 or so NZ, new price is $3200 or so.

Can you confirm the focus point changes as you zoom?

You get used to the weight after a while

I regularly drag mine around forests on rallies with the MK2N attached.

As for the focus point, i believe it does change with focal length but i've never deliberately set out to prove that as it's not an issue to me.

Yup I love my copy and as you say, you do get used to the weight. Sigma had the 200-500 F2.8 on there stand today. Now THAT'S a heavy lens. The 120-300 is only 2.9KG

I'm just wondering who is going to be the 1st person to turn up at a shoot carrying that rocket launcher........bearing in mind how arsey some people get when they see a pro-lens near a high profile building, I wouldn't fancy your chances of taking photos of planes at Heathrow or pics of the Houses of Parliment with that

Don't go anywhere near Faslane with one. They'll load it with Trident missiles and send it on a 6 month tour of duty.

MH they've updated the 200-500f2.8 now, it doesnt look quite like that ol thing.
