'Istock' have just got back intouch and told me that the photos i uploaded have been accepted...am really pleased and had to share it with someone.

i got rejected the first 10 i put with 'shutterstock' a month ago so am going to have another go with them in a few days time.

anyone else doing stock?
what site are you with and how well does it pay?

Well done!
Personally, I'm with Fotolibra - but only made a few £10s, I'm too critical of my own rubbish to submit much!

Well Done Paul! I'm on iStock too and they are VERY picky about images being truly stock-worthy, free of any "over-filtering" or artifacting and without a hint of copyright/trademark violations. I've got about 120 images there and it earns me about $50/month. I'm also on Shutterstock, LuckyOliver, Fotolia, Dreamstime, 123 Royalty Free, StockXpert and BigStockPhoto. I earn between $200-300/month in total. iStock and Shutterstock are the best earners.

I get a lot of pleasure from micro-stock because I'm not a professional photog but can earn decent "pocket money" from what is essentially a hobby. Once the images are uploaded, keyworded and accepted, there's nothing more to do! Just watch the "pennies" roll in. OK, it is just pennies for me, but if I add a few hundred decent images evry year, it will be a nice supplement to my forthcoming persion!

For anyone interested, there's a link to my Shutterstock portfolio here

Yes, I'm with them all Paul. My portfolios vary a bit, because of the different review policies at each. You get to know the type of things that sites aren't really interested in. There's also the difference in acceptance rates; worst for me is iStock at about 55%, BigStock, LuckyOliver and 123rf are the best at around 95%. The majority of my stock-worthy shots I send to them all though.

The thing to remember with iStock is that a lot of contributors are exclusive. They get bigger upload limits and I think the search algorithms are structured to give them a slightly higher profile. I also seem to remember that exclusivity relates to being registered with other sites, even if the images are different (you may want to check this though). Also, if you want to "play the field" first and then go exclusive with iStock, remember that some sites make you sign-up to keeping your images on there for a specified period; can be up to six months. Worth checking the small print!

Thanks Ed.
just looked at your portfo, all excellent images on there (they'd have to be to get accepted) it's the best way of getting stock ideas looking at others work.
i think what pleases me the most with being accept is that i can consider myself as a 'good photographer' or could it be even higher and be 'semi pro' ?
or is it that i just understand Stock companies rules LOL.

Be prepared!!!

I was on the 'puter when the tremor stuck, that was one strange and scary occurence it disorientates you as the high level of noise and the oddity of the sound plus the residual of the trwmor left the gable end walls vibrating.
Youngest son is at Sudbrooke and he phoned straight after "Bl--dy H-ll, dad that was mad!" Thankfully no structurals.
Hope you were OK.

Paul, I would look forward to seeing them, as I'm sure Jenks would also, but maybe some others might be a little squeamish.
PM me offline.

Was about to sign up and try my luck with istock when I read the T's and C's - am I correct that if I upload a shot that is accepted, I cannot show it anywhere else even on my own site (even in a reduced size)??
