Sigma 170-500 ???

Thinking about buying a Sigma 170-500 lens for my Canon EOS40D, your thoughts and best place to buy, have got a 28-300 Tamron but would like a 500 lens and this seems to be the cheepest way, little bit new to this photo game, any help please.

A friend of mine has the 50-500mm Sigma - great lens. IIRC the other lenses are good, look for some decent reviews on t'interweb!

You may need to switch off OS to pan nicely

Taken the plunge and ordered the new Sigma 150-500 with OS, should get it next month, hope it's O.K.
