Thinking about this months competition kitchen, we popped down the local BBQ shack to get some ideas. As usually the idea was eat as much as possible (well, that was my idea anyway). Got a few nice restaurant shots and it was a good learning experience with the new kit in low/difficult light.

How're you finding the 1Ds 3 to be at high ISO?

I've found mine to be very noisy compared to my 5D.

Yeah I'd say it's worse than my 1D MK2 above 400 too. I've seen some tests against the 5D and it was a bit worse, but if you took the extra pixels into count and the inherent noise reduction you get with downsizing images it was exactly the same (no surprise I suppose).

Overall I'm really happy with it. Live view is a must on the 50mm F1.0 for anything under 10ft, and the images are stunning. I've only shot RAW so far as the detail is just amazing. I'm averaging 23MB a shot though! Still CF space is so cheap these days...

How are you finding the battery life?

Yup, it's not a great shot. Then again we literally just sat down, had a quick chat with owner then pop pop pop reeled off a couple of shots. I must go back and get a few more.

I might try some food shots too. Never photographed my dinner before!

And there I was thinking you were inviting us all to a BBQ. I'm disappointed!

get that guy over nearer to a window. it's just hard to look at his face when his hat is all lit up. window light comes in horizontal(ish) and should light under the cap aswell as the top.

Battery life is pretty exceptional - easily 4,000 shots to a battery, even in humid Thailand.

Some RAW files are massive - I've varied between 21 to 35mb redface and have had to upgrade to 8GB RAM on my Mac Pro just to deal with the resultant 16 bit TIFFs.

Even in daylight not much light gets down there. It's in between some large buildings. I was thinking I might get some light reflected off the white door to help. Worth a try I suppose!
