I won a canon lens on ebay, a Canon 600mm F4 IS L for a reallygood price, winning bid was £2800 for a lens which is three months old. But after 3 days I still haven't been able to contact the seller. I am starting to think that the seller doesn;t want the lens to go s cheap.

The seller had 100% Feedback on 400 transactions and is UK based. The good thing is until I speak to him I won;t send the money.

I just think if you had a high value item on ebay you would be a lot quicker responding to the buyer.

The auction can be seen here:-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

Should I wait in hope that the deal goes through, or just forget about it???

Hi Sean how are you mate?

I guess you can answer the question by ringing Grays of Westminster and asking what they'd pay for one cash as per the advert wink

Seems like you are compensating for something with a lens that long though... biggrin

Mate I am good.

That lens is a fantastic piece of kit, and would be great for wildlife when go to Oz in a month or so. But I am starting to think it's to go to be true.

I am going Oz via New York so will pick a long lens up there.

Yep B&H will give you a good saving I'm sure. I bought a load of kit out there before Christmas.

Alternatively you could just rent a lens if you don't think you'll get tonnes of usage?

A friend of mine got in touch with the seller of this lens, asking questions about it. It didn't turn out too good and he didn't bid.

I've asked him to send it to me - i'll post it if I get it back tonight.

GL if you decide to go for it!!

Just spoken to my friend:

He's asked about nipping to Burton to see it (he's a stones throw away) but he said, in terribly broken English, that he was 'visiting in America, with my son', that he needs the money urgently and if he paid by Western Union money transfer he could have one for £1500. he asked for my mates ebay details and said that it would go through eBay's trust and safety department and that ebay would send him an Invoice to confirm. Strange, as eBay don't allow Western union payments!!

He was also told that he's got 3 for sale and that he could have all 3 for £3000.

He told me to tell you to check his bidding history - looks like he's primarily a buyer not a seller and is buying cheap tat to up his score. he couldn't remember his email address but it was something like jonjon0800@ [probably]hotmail.com.

Seeing is believing and it's the only way to believe this is a genuine sale, I'm afraid.

Sorry to put a dampner on the purchase of the century but don't want to see ya lose ya money.

Scott

Thanks mate. I emailed the guy telling him to call me, and that I would go and collect. I guess he was just hoping I sent the money.

Thanks again. There isn't even any point in leaving negative feedback as he will just do the same to me.

Cheers Sean

Report it to eBay as being suspect, mention his bidding history looks fishy and that you can't get in touch with him too. Basically get in there first - he can report you for non-payment, unfortunately, but if they check his account first will probably remove any feedback he tries to leave.

Still, at least you didn't send the money smile

Best current UK price for that lens is £5400. Imported from HK saves you a grand so being realistic, did you really expect this to be a genuine sale?

Used UK Price in A1 Condition will only be a few hundred less than new at most.

Check the sellers feedback. Has sold nothing since last July, items unidentified, current ratings are for stuff he's bought recently such as lipstick, The Good Housekeeping Book of Chocolate.....

Also looks like he had an identity change for a couple of days recently. Going to guess that was when the lens was listed.

Just 'sold' a psp on ebay, wanted it posted to Lagos, so I know a big no no. But the emails that have been sent to me by 'ebay' and 'paypal' look very genuine. If I didnt work for the BiB and knew all the tell tale signs I could easily have fallen for them.
