I am looking for a new camcorder as my panasonic MiniDV has finally given up.

I am looking to spend around £300 unless there are any really good ones for a little bit more. It seems that MiniDV is coming to a end and that DVD and HDD ones are coming to be more common has anyone got any recomendations for a camera in this price band?

If i go for a HDD one i would want one with a DVD as a backup just incase i run out of space while on holiday

Thanks

Steve

Hi,
Went thru the same dilemma a few months ago but stuck with MiniDV after reading about pros and cons about DVD and HDD mainly the extra PC power required to edit HDD and quality of DVD as apposed to MiniDV.

I bought the Sony DCR HC96E from Ebuyer for about £300 back in January.

Have a look around the following site for lots of discussion etc.

Mini DV gets my vote- same image quality than HDD or DVD ones, cheap tapes, and plus you always have the tape in your cupboard as a backup, instead of needing terrabytes of HD space to store backups of your footage

Prosumer HDV cameras use the same tape type, so mini DV tapes will still be around for the next 10 years or so.
