I've noticed that the flash is very unflattering on people!

Hogla rolleyes

My how to :-

1) Get nice D-SLR and lens.
2) Cut plastic coke bottle in half and stick bottom over lens.
3) Get some black tape and stick over the D-SLR preview LCD so you can't know what you've taken.
4) Shoot away totally blind.
5) When finished take out CF card and post it to yourself 2nd class (to recreate the 'excitement' of waiting for your shots).
6) If and when you receive your CF Card randomly delete 10% of the shots (again to add to the development 'excitement'). At this point burn a fiver or two for the authentic feel.
7) Get said shots and run them all through a Photoshop 'change-into-70's-bought-with-green-shield-stamps-instamatic' process.

Sit back and marvel at the result.

gentlemen, where is your sense of romance? should we conform and stick with our clinical digital cameras and obsession with megapixels and photoshop?

Or can we explore, learn and enjoy doing so? who cares if it's with a plastic lens, i love it and so do others so why denigrate it so furiously?

Not my intention to denigrate at all. Just Phil's comments tickled me wink

I've been toying with a Holga, but have decided to have a play with a lensbaby instead as I'm so into the "instant gratification" that comes with digital (I still have 4+ rolls of films that need developing from over 5 years ago (when I last shot film)

Unto each their own wink - as long as they keep posting the results here...

hehe Oh come on now, they are rubbish though aren't they. It takes some going to get results that could probably be bettered by a pinhole camera wink

Fortunately it doesn't matter much if you think they are st. You are allowed your opinion and it's equally as valid as anyone else's on the subject, although it doesn't change my point of view.

I guess it depends on what your objective is when you press the shutter. A Holga doesn't automatically take bad pictures, and a Holga will not make me a bad photographer any more than having enough money to buy a new 1DSmkIII would me me a good one.

It's about the process and the result, not the tool you use to get it. That's why I see young kids being creative with cheap digital compacts who take pictures far better than I can with my expensive kit. frown

I can't really understand the controversy. Cameras are horses for corses I'm just riding a different horse. I think that digital compacts are st so would rather use a film camera if I don't want to take my DSLR out. I like the colours and randomness of the Holga and last weekend have tried a 35mm Leica compact out to see how I get on with that.

Photography is a creative process and I think in general is taken too seriously and too much focus is put on equipment, I'm just having a break from that with the Holga.

yes I totally agree. I suppose the thing I don't get is with these little digital jobs now as low as 10's of quid why you'd bother with film at all, in something like a Hogla anyway. I'm all for cheap photography but is film the cheap option anymore?

I think my main problem with them is that if you like using film for very few £'s more you can get really nice little compacts that can do a stunning good. I think a Scho said a little while ago, it feels that Hogla's just waste film.

But hey, if it makes you happy, who am I to argue smile
