Had 10 mins to spare yesterday so fired off 4 shots of our harbour hoping to make a nice pano to hang on the wall, It doesn't quite look right but I can't figure what is wrong anyone point me in the right direction. Ian

Couple of stops overexposed as you've lost most detail in the sky. Ideal subject for an HDR image!
I've boosted colours and levels a bit, and put a slight warm filter on as well. Basically a lovely shot - if you can go back and reshoot it, you've got a fabulous image there! Well done.

Wow what a difference ! Re shooting won't be a problem as this is my home town but the hdr option is way beyond my limited skills, I can produce a single hdr to a reasonable standard but this using 4 shots would baffle me. I think the time of day was the problem with the exposure as the sun was at the right of the shot and I didn't want to mess with the exposure between the individual shots. I have had this shot in my minds eye for a long time and just took advantage of the low tide while I had 1/2 hour to spare (I think if the tide was in the swaying of the masts may cause problems for Photoshop making a good merge.) I will have a go at sorting this one in PS but I am not sure how to boost the colours but it will help me learn. Ian I've boosted colours and levels a bit, and put a slight warm filter on as well. Wow, what a lovely place to live! You must get some lovely sunsets there. The simplest method! All I did Ian was to open the image in Photoshop Elements, then use LAYER - NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER - LEVELS. Use the sliders under to histogram to lighten or darken the image. You can also use this to access the HUE/SATURATION to deepen or alter the colours.
Really though, using the Photomatix program to get an HDR image is not difficult. Just shoot 3 images using a tripod, one as metered, one two stops under, one 2 stops over. Photomatix does the rest with a couple of twiddles. It'll be worth it!

It is a truly beautiful place and the sun sets are rated as some of the best in the world , the opening scenes of the last but one bond movie supposed to be a beach in Thailand at sun set was filmed 5 miles from where I am sitting now Also Kiera Knightly's latest movie "the edge of love" to be released at the end of June was mainly filmed here. Back to the hdr it is just that the pano is made up of 4 shots and to make each of those hdr then merge them is a bit beyond my fledgling post production skills (only had PS 2 months or so). Thanx for the input I have taken it all in and will no doubt improve a little thanx to it. Ian
Edit to add a sun set snap from last Saturday (no post production)
