Vertical Panoramic
Discussion
Well, to be honest I've never used the CS3 image sticher. Last time I did any stiching was about three years ago using a canon util that came with the 300D. However, I don't see why an image program that normally stiches landscape format images on the short edges horizontally wouldn't stitch protrait images on the long edges, which you could then rotate to get a vertical panoramic.
Maybe I am missing something. Obviously you may have to rotate the source images first.

Love that shot Cy88, just great.
I thought I would pass this on, if the Photomerge in CS3 is not stitchign for you, try a package called Autopano Pro. Just released by some french guys and I have found it to be absolutely brilliant. You can download a test copy for free to see if it works for you and a full licence version is only Eur 99. From my perspective I'd say it is to panoramic stitchign what Rawshooter was to RAW conversions.
Cheers

I use Autostitch for panoramas (recommended from someone on a TVR thread). It works really well, is very simple to use and a free download.
Whilst this is not a brilliant picture it shows what can be done - about 15 pictures stitched together:

I did try it with two portrait pictures and it came out like this:

but after rotating them first I got this:

Here is another I took last year and joined together 9 photos:
