Some pics from today. Just got a 40D a couple of days ago and this was my first time using it and im not that happy with the results, still have to change a couple of settings and get used to the camera. Couldnt seem to get the WB right with any of the settings, and does anyone know how to stop the camera focusing with a half press of the shutter button?

Can see them all on my flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/alanw89/

Comments and criticism welcome.

I was just about to post in your topic,

579 for the 40D and kit lens seems low to me so dont think you would get the cashback. I got mine body only from kerso on ebay for 570 (cheapest elsewhere was ~600). I bought a 17-40 L from kerso last year and was able to get the cashback for it no problem, although with the 40D i didnt get an invoice but have emailed him asking him to send me one so hopefully i can get it sorted.

I think you would be aswell emailing kerso to see what price he can give you, I've bought two L lenses and the 40D from him with no problem and lots of people recommend him.

Nice shots. That Murci looks familiar, I wonder if it's GI_Jnr's old car... Great to see exotics like that being thrapped around a track.

Regarding your focus question - don't all cameras focus with a half press of the shutter - and why would you want to stop this? Presumably what you mean is that for track work it's better to set the camera in continuous focus mode - but even then it still needs a half press to start the party... The only thing that wont is manual focus, which should be easy enough to select.

Thanks for the comments

I found out how to stop the focussing after some guesswork with the custom functions. I like to have it so that focus is controlled by the *button on the back of the camera. I find that alot easier as it seperates focussing, metering and taking the picture. Quite hard to explain but thats what ive gotten used to and it felt strange focussing with the shutter button.

Does the 40D not have a dedicated AF on button?
