Whoops, all taken at Silverstone a couple of years ago EXCEPT the last one which was taken at a park bench round the back of David Lloyd leisure club in Milton Keynes :P

I'll judge by the actual cars themselves as opposed to the q of the pictures tbh. I like No1 the best, it probably sounded the nicest too thumbup.

No, still do not understand why you posted No19 though confused

Right you are! Yes, the camera is crap, it was the best I had at the time (about 2 years back!) I've now got hold of a Pentax K100, again not the best, but it's half-decent.

Why not? And yeah, the Maserati was THE best sounding one there, even with the Mclaren, Nissan, Lotus and there were a few Lolas there that I didn't get snaps of.

Honest feedback? Don't get upset now...

These pictures show no imagination of composure, You have stood at an offset angle on each car and clicked the shutter.

In some of the pictures you've clipped bits of the car off.

In the first picture the primary focus of the picture is out of focus.

In the last picture you've posted one of those pictures people take on the way to the chemists to get the film developed because they have one shot on the film they need to waste.

There's a guy on here, he captions his photos "Grant". The composure of his photos is fascinating, have a trawl through and see if you can find any inspriation about how you could use such photo opportunities a bit more fruitfully because it looks like you got very good access to the cars.

HTH!

ETA: Found his profile: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/profile.asp?h=0...

and some examples of that "fascinating composure" I mentioned.

Trackdemon also puts up some great car pics e.g.

Cheers olf, I'll have a good look at those later. Yeah, I don't mind brutally honest criticism, it gives me a rounded idea of what's good and what's not good smile

Subjective criticism - always consider your background when composing. Loads of people wandering around in the picture will turn what could be a good image into an amateur looking snap. Your Jaguar garage shot for instance has got a chap in a white shirt with a beer belly right behind the car, the gorgeous Yardley BRM, if you'd waited 2 seconds, that pedestrian wandering behind would be out of shot.

Maybe a lower viewpoint makes the car look more dramatic. Just shoot lots of images and experiment!

I guess you're right about the background changing the image completely. Thanks for all the tips guys! Btw, these were all taken on a Casio Exilim 5.0 megapixels. Rubbish camera, but I got it cheap.

Paddock pictures are tricky to get right. Patience is key. Set up the shot you want and wait for the opportune moment. Keep your wits about you though - guaranteed way to piss off a driver is to stand oblivious in the middle of the roadway while he's trying to get to the grid.

Go early - get there before all the pesky spectators turn up. A raceday paddock is a wonderful place to be early doors. Buckets of coffee, last minute spannering and queues at scrutineering always create a buzz about the place. An air of expectation. The only people you're going to get in the background are crews, drivers and officials, not Mr Smith with his beer belly and Silverstone shop carrier bag.

If its a 2 day event, the practice day will usually be much quieter so use this to your advantage too.
