which digital camera
Discussion
hi, could anyone please recommend a camera to me for under £200. want an all rounder really and nothing to complex.
have looked at
fuji finepix f50 fd that comes in at £150
cannon ixus 85 is £190
or is it worth getting a "bridging camera" and would the photos be much better? i am only a beginner.
many thanks.

Depends on whether you are looking for one to slip in your pocket or something better. For the former from what I've read the new Nikon S600 seems to be good since apparently it gives better results in lower light (for the first time for a point and shoot). Moreover, it has a useful 28mm lens at the wide end. However, if the second is your choice then - how much do you want to spend? You can get very caught up in this hobby!
I'd heartily recommend a Panasonic TZ3 or a TZ5 if the budget stretches....
Fantastic little camera, i use a TZ3 when i dont want to lug about the SLR.
Ok so it doesnt have a truly massive pixel count (7 million) but how often are you going to blow anything up to above A3 size?? Besides the number of pixels isnt everything!!
TZ3 has a 10x optical zoom (inc 28mm wide angle which is indispensible in my view) with image stabiliser, large screen and is dead simple to use. Best of all is the Leica lens, really sharp and suprisingly good in video mode. Build quality is excellent. Mine was £175 at the end of last year, should be able to get even cheaper now esp since the TZ5 is out....

£250 max. it's mainly for photos of my new born so going to use it at home, out and about. so prob best with compact just got a bit lost as of what i need or what camera is best, started out £150 tops and ended up looking at slr's up to £500! guess i just want something easy to use that takes good photos and has a video mode. just seen that new panasonic on tv with wide lens??
