New Canon Camera advice !!
Discussion
I'm looking at getting either a Canon Powershot G9 or the Canon IXUS 90 IS (The G9 is around £100 more)
As far as i can tell, then G9 will take better photos but the IXUS isn't far behind on picture quality but is more compact.
Is this simplistic opinion correct?

I think the G9 is quite a bit ahead of the IXUS (you're paying more for quality with the G9, rather than more for the styling of the IXUS). Don't think that having the same megapixel count makes them as good!
It depends what you want the camera for really, I've seen some very positive reviews of the G9, and it lets you shoot in full manual mode if you're so inclined so is definitely a more 'serious' camera. The IXUS is great too in that it's small and works well on auto (not sure how much control you can get over it).

Well, i had a Canon IXUS 850 IS but i hav totally knackered it beyond repair. So im looking for the same brand so that the battery and my 4GB SDHC Card will work on the new camera. I use the amera for pretty much everything. I work in property do im constantly visiting sites, buildings etc and taken photos for reference. I like to travel a lot so need it to take photos while im away im places like Peru etc. I do use it a lot
I also like to take me camera out with me on the odd occasion. Having said all the above, i know the IXUS will suit all my needs better, im just being tempted to go for a better camera so that my travel photos will be of a better quality.
I do really need the IXUS i suppose

Good Luck with your new purchase.
I don't think you will be disappointed. I had the same thoughts as yourself, went for the G9 as well, it's a great camera as far as I'm concerned. Always good to have manual options, never know when you might need and something to play with when bored!.
