does anyone know of anywhere I can rent specialist camera lenses from (preferably canon)? I don't really fancy buying a whole load when I only need them for a few shots. Do any of the high street stores do it? Online would be ok too I guess...????

I've seen these guys recommended here before:

Although I have no personal experience of them. (I just bookmarked it for future reference).

I've used Fixation in the past and not had any problems.

Those rental rates for big lenses look very good.
£180 a week for a EF400mm f2.8, Calumet want over £500/ week yikes

Have I miss read that or something ?

!0% insurance and VAT on top.

You'll have to leave them with a swipe of your card (for charging purposes in case you forget to return the lens).

I took out a 28-300 over a long weekend (Le Mans) a few years ago and was £70 so your price sounds about right.

I've used Fixation for lens rental and their sensor cleaning. It's a no-nonsense outfit that has been around a long long time, mainly serving the woking pros. As such the kit might not be cosmetically 100% as it gets a hard life but it works 100%, the selection is good and they don't mess you around.

I used to work right by the old Fixation (though I think they moved pre 2001 when I started working in Vauxhall). Colleagues of mine from back then used them quite happilly.
I also know from a friend that if you're after a lens they do not presently lease then they will look in to purchasing it, however your rentals costs will be high.
