sony A350 or Canon 450D, Im sort of leaning towards the former because its 14.2 megapixels and the live view mode appears better. the thing that is confusing me is the anti shake, I think this is right....the sony has it n the lense while the canon has it in the body, does it matter? What would you recommend?

You has it wrong.

Sony has it in body (old minolta system).

Canon has it in some lenses, like the IS kit lens the 450d comes with.

They both have benefits and drawbacks.

Dont get sucked into the megapixel hype, more usualy has its own drawbacks with noise, and IMO half the reason for buying a dSLR is their low noise low light perfomance.

Look at other things like sustained burst rates, raw perfomance, AF perfomance, viewfinder, fit and handling etc.

The 450D is a cracking piece of kit and probably the best in its market range but I've not paid much attention to the sony.
