Off to Singapore for GP and am wanting to get a new lens (possibly whilst there) for the Canon which would be suitable for motorsport, telephoto travel shots and relatively lightweight...

Thats what I use as well as a sigma 70-300 dg macro which is a tad heavy. The 55-200mm is a cracking lens and nice and light but 200mm may nit be enough at some curcuits.

I use the Canon 70-300 for motorsports pics - Nice image quality for the price, but I find the focusing can be a little slow.

If you don't want 300mm then take a look at the 70-200mm L series lenses

If budget allows - Canon 100-400mm L is a motorsports stalwart smile

Cheers.

I would recommend the 100-400 if you can stretch your budget that farwink

You can use a 1.4x or 2x extender with the 70-200 (at the expense of 1 or 2 f-stops) which might be an option to keep the weight down.

The 100-400 IS L is a great lens and the image stabilisation is excellent but it's quite a large lens.

Anybody know what the 90-300 EF lens is like ??

Also are the IS lenses worth the extra cash ? Is it just the extra function of the Image stabiliser or are they better quality lenses too ??
