Does your camera need a firmware update? I had a few problems like this. I recall having a firmware update at time. I also threw the CF card away when it happened a second time. I also switched to SanDisk CF cards and haven't had problems. I reformat my cards usually once a job is complete.

Do they show ok on the screen on the camera?
They do...and they also look OK on Bridge, only going like this when opened in PS.ThatPhilBrettGuy said:

Firmware updated about 6 weeks ago and is the latest...i've never had a problem with a CF card.
i have had problems with a fire wire card reader that would show as ejected on my mac, then tell me i hadn't ejected it after i took it out
it made some of the images go like your examples.
try a different car reader in future, not sure what can be done to save your pics

I had something that looked very similar once when I was downloading the pics via USB directly from the camera and the camera battery failed part-way through. The jpeg 'preview' that was embedded in the files was OK - hence they looked undamaged in some photo browsers, but the raw data itself was lost.
This doesn't sound like exactly the same problem, but it does look like it could be some sort of filesystem corruption or card-write problem. Unfortunately it doesn't look good for recovering your photos.
