I'd like to buy a new kit bag for all my camera gear as it's slowly building up to the point where I can no longer carry everything I need in my crumpler case.
In fact, I can only get my 40D with 17-40mm f/4L lens and 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 safely in there. There's no room for the prime or my flash.
What bags could you recommend keeping in mind that I will eventually have the following equipment so I need to space for expansion:
Already own
Canon EOS 40D
EF 17-40mm f/4 L with lens hood
EF 55-200 f/4.5-5.6
EF 50mm f/1.8
Speedlite Flash
Spare batteries
Charges
Power chords
USB cables
Memory cards
Items to buy
70-200mm f/2.8L (replaces 55-200mm and top of the list of things to buy)
50mm f/1.4 (replaces 50mm f/1.8)
Eithera 24-70mm f/2.8 L or 24-105mm f/4 L
Mini tripod, but I'm thinking this is something I have to carry!
I think that's it for now.
I love the crumpler bag range, but I'm open to any ideas or suggestions...
Cheers,
BB

Keep the Crumpler, but buy a Peli case as well.
Isn't a Peli case like a briefcase?
This is a little OTT for me!

I need something that can be carried around. There's nice looking Crumpler rucksack that can carry my gear, but I'm wondering how big and bulky it is....

Another vote here for the Peli's. I have 4 now and they're great!! I'll never use a bag again.I'd like something comfortable that can go over my shoulder or on my back.
Any other suggestions?

That's why I said keep the Crumpler yuo're happy with.
It's seldom we need all our gear with us while shooting. You know that if you're shooting motorsport out on the cicuit you won't be needing the wide and medium angled lenses, or a lot of the other gear we lug around. All the stuff that you don't need will be (padlocked) in the Peli, in the boot. The Peli is used as a base from which you take what you need for any shooting situation, so when you've finished the telephoto shots you go back to the Peli, put another lens and flash on the camera then head off to the pits. It's also good for plane journies...Peli in the hold, bag as hand luggage.

after carrying most / all my kit around with me I now use an approach a bit like Jenx's by just selecting what i think I'll need for that particular session.
When out shooting I use a Think Tank Speed Racer belt pack. In this I can get D3 with 24-85 zoom attached plus 70-200, and then capacity wise 2 other small lenses or a flash. This is a great pack as you can either have it on the waist belt or should strap or combo of the two. You can also add extra smaller packs on to the waist belt section. I've found it very useful for carrying a water bottle with me. With this I'm carrying enough gear but with the waist belt it's not too tiring on your shoulder by the end of the day plus it's easy to get into to swap lenses as you go around.
For a main "storage" type bag I use a Think Tank Airport Acceleration backpack which can take all of this plus my long lens and spare body. It's also compact enough to meet airline carry on regs so useful for holidays.

I also don't think I have that much equipment that I'd be able to fill up a Peli case! It would look disappointingly empty!

With regards to taking what I'd like, I've already tried fitting a 70-200mm f/4L lens in my Crumpler bag and it simply doesn't fit...let alone the f/2.8 L version which is larger. This is why I really need something bigger.
This is more what I had in mind though.....

Billingham bags are very nice. I use mine a lot and it is indestructable. I also have a Nat Geographic rucksack which is great also but I like my billingham much more and they seem to look better the older they get. I use a 335 but they make all sizes for all sizes of kit.
The Billingham bags are rather nice, although I'm not sure which size would be best. They have a rubbish website though!
Sside from size considerations, have you thought about the weight?
My crumpler when loaded with less equipment than you are proposing is a pretty hefty thing to lug around. Anything more than a short walk sees me swapping shoulders all the time.
If you do decide to carry everything you've listed around, I'd advise going for a proper rucksack rather than messenger style shoulder bag.
Nowadays I decide what I'm going to carry and leave the rest behind. It's pretty rare I regret not bringing a particular item along.

I really like the fact that the lining is not that fleecy brushed mylon stuff that lines my ole Lowepro bag (urgh) and is not made from reject shell suit material

I can fit in the 445 (at the same time, when needed)
D300 with grip & 17-55f2.8 attached.
D70
50mm prime
70-200 f2.8 Sigma
Sigma 10-20mm
SB800 flash
Sigma EF500 super flash
15" laptop
Assorted blowers / brushes / batteries / memory card cases etc.
Really very good, and flexible as the interbal dividers can be moved easily (velcro into place) and the "tuck-top" works well (you can tuck the flaps of the zip behind the liner inside the case so it's very easy to close the lid to protect your kit but have easy access when needed.
It's also more waterproof than I am

Highly recommended and should last me "a while"
