As per a previous thread my 2.0GB memory card that was in my Canon IXUS 850is has been corrupting the photos on a number of occasions and I have now decided to bin it and get a new one (which will either solve the problem or demonstrate a faulty camera).

Anyway, I'm thinking another 2.0GB will be fine, but am wondering which is the best (or more to the point most reliable) version/make to get. and where from. Any recommendations ?? or will any old 2.0GB SD card do ???

I have 8 2GB Sandisk Extreme III's Faultless; never had a problem and at today's prices £12ea. My camera, a D80 will handle bigger cards but I would rather loose a days shooting rather than a week! And for that reason on important 'shoots', say holiday's, I tend to download to a mini lap-top (Advent 4211 from PC World) at the end of a day and leave the photo's on the card. That way I have backups.

4GB Extreme III cards are only £15, I'd go for a few of them.

Is there an issue with cards being above 2GB being classified at SD-HC cards - therefore only certain cameras can take them ???

Another recommendation here for Sandisk. Used Sandisk cards for over 2 years and never had a problem with any of them.

Never had any faults with sandisk, though I would say you probably don't need to go to the lengths of the Extreme II - as the card will be way faster than your camera can write to it. Something like an 33x card would be fine, esp if you download via the camera not via a decent card reader.

Forgot to say, just watch out for the fakes on ebay, I'd err on the side of paying a little more and getting it from amazon, 7dayslop etc.

Cheers - its a SANDisk that I have at the moment (although I did get it off ebay which may explain why it is crap!)

I'll get myself a a new sandisk from Amazon. At least that way if it screws up again I'll know I got a proper one and the camera must be at fault...

Like Ian, I used 2GB Sandisk Extreme III cards and have a few, to avoid loosing too much if disaster does strike.

I've generally used 7dayshop for my cards
