I've not really been taking "proper" photos for ages, and the ones I did take have just sat on my PC unprocessed, so I decided to start working through a few and get back into it.

Here are a couple I took in Tuscany earlier this year - bit rusty on the old processing, so any comments are welcome smile

I'll add a few more once I've processed them, but don't hold your breath biggrin

like the first one, levels in the second one seem a little too wishy washy

I like both....

I also like the fact I'm just about to leave home, hop on a plane and go get some sun in Tuscany for a week smile

(and get away from this bl00dy rain and foul weather) smile

I like them both but the layers of shade in the first one is great. The sort of stuff to hang on your wall. yes

The first one is great, definately worthy of some wall space

Great shots Ed! I love that first one - definitely one to grace walls with. Now I can see the point of getting up at 4am thumbup

Second shot is good too but could be improved further with an increase in density and perhaps a minor tweak in levels.

I shall look forward to seeing more of your Tuscany work.

Thanks for the comments smile It's funny - I thought number 2 looked great until you pointed out it could do with a bit of tweaking, and now it does look really flat biggrin

Here's what I've come up with - any better?

It just goes to show how important correct PP is. I thought (sorry, still do) that both photos were/are excellent and I would have been really proud of them. Now you've made the changes to the 2nd one, it's even better. It's one area of my photography that I want to improve. So often I get a shot that I think is good yet just can't seem to get the PP right to really make the most of the shot though.

Hey ho - back to the classroom.

Was the 4am stated correct? If so, I think I might have to start rolling out of bed earlier....

Yeah, it's funny - I thought the 2nd one was good too (having done a bit of PPing on it already), but as soon as it was pointed out that it was a bit flat, it suddenly became obvious. I am a bit rusty though, so hopefully with a bit more practice I'll get my eye in a bit better.

I can't remember exactly what time that was taken, but I was up at about 4:30am every day for a week, to make sure I was out shooting by 5am to catch the colours in the sky just before sunrise silly It's worth it though when you get results like that smile

Much prefer the original. The second version is far too contrasty and looks unnatural to me. You've lost that subtlety in the distant mist too. Light at that time of day is flat and wishy washy, and just because it's so easy to put more contrast in these days doesn't mean you need to. smile

Decent kit helps, but as long as it's reasonable (i.e., not a £4.99 disposable), it's mostly down to being in the right place at the right time. I spent a week getting up at 4:30am every day, and only got decent light on a couple of those days.

All worth popping onto a microstock site IMO for some toy money.

Just got back from a fantastic week and what a lovely part of the world.

We hired a villa, imagine waking up everyday with these views...I'd move there tomorrow if I could!

The local villages are all built on the side of mountains and are amazing and full of character

If you'd like a good week away, you could do a lot worse!
