RAF Brize Norton - 18/9/08

Some very nice pics there mate. That VC10 looks better from the outside, I came back from Canada a couple of weeks ago on one and it was emotional !! Sat in the cockpit for an hour though so that was pretty cool. The flight engineer told me that it is now the fastest commercial airliner going (or something like that) it was Concord, but now its the VC10, cruises at Mach 0.85 (which we were) but they take it to mach 0.96 on training flights. He also said they are finishing there service with the RAF, one went 3 weeks ago and the others are being replaced by some A330 ?? So enjoy the pics while you can. Also saw the vulcan out over Santa Pod on saturday 6/9, will try and get some pics of it off my mate. Stopped off at Gander in New Foundland to refuel and also saw one of those Antonov's, big old thing that was.

The VC10 and Tristar will soldier on until 2012 when they are replaced by a handfull of A330's "leased" from a civilian operator. When the Aircraft are not used by the RAF they are to be chartered out to other airlines!!I think the one retired a few weeks ago was one of the K4s, which were one of the ex-BA ones converted to the tanker role in the early 1990s.
Apparently its gone to Boscombe Down for structural testing.

Yeah, I got told it had gone to Boscombe Down too. The flight engineer said one of the main problems is engine parts, their not being built anymore so when they go wrong its getting harder to source replacements. I picked up a work colleague last night and she had been delayed by 3 days due tp broken down VC10's.
