I want a new camara but i dont want a standard digi cam.

was thinking about getting a digi SLR with the likes of extra filters and lens's, the whole shebang.

now what im stuck with is what camara to get.

if the fine people of pistonheads biggrin can help would be greatly apresiated(sp?)

limit around £200(for camara not filters), might be able to strech a little more but not much.

£200 for a digital SLR? If it has to be new, £240 is about as low as you can go http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000KIX65S

Second hand... Ebay is your oyster. Or something.

does anyone know if the camara in the link allows me to keep the shutter open for long exposure shots.

i.e like when you get a pic of a city/road with all the cars lights trailing along?

Here is a review of the Nikon D40 - http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/NikonD40/

On page 2 of the review, in the Shutter section, it says "30 to 1/4000 sec". This is the 'normal' limits of the shutter - from a 4000th of a second (for 'stopping' fast movement) to 30 seconds (for long exposures like car light trails).

It also says "Bulb" - this allows you to keep the shutter open for even longer than 30 seconds. You would normally use a 'remote release' so that the act of pressing the button on the camera doesn't shake it.

I'd read that article on dpreview - it does a good job of highlighting the D40s' strengths and weaknesses smile

Cheers.

yes

Camera throwing with a lighter, some traffic and traffic lights:

Camera: Nikon D40
Exposure: 25 sec (25)
Aperture: f/4
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 200

And the more traditional shot

Both on the lens you get with the D40 (18-55)
