Here are some shots I've taken over the last few days in Windsor Great Park:

From a misty Sunday morning:

The following were taken on Tuesday. My 20+ year old Canon 70-300mm telephoto lens finally gave up and wouldn't focus sharply, either manually or AF, on distant objects - I was really gutted! I went for a grainy B&W processing to try to recover something...

Have just ordered a Sigma 120-400mm telephoto lens - I'll be going back to the Park once that arrives.

Lovely pics, don't know why but they make me feel warm and cosy for some reason, makes me imagine sitting by a log fire with a pint of beer in the highlands on a winters evening. I'm odd i know.

Some really nice photos there smile

My only gripe would be that it's obvious (due to noise) that some have been highly cropped. Consider trying some noise removal software such as Noiseware or Noise Ninja.

Cheers for the comments.

Andy M - Great suggestion, I've downloaded the Noiseware plug-in trial and wow, what a difference that makes!

Martin, any chance of seeing No.3 in colour, it's a cracking shot but, to me at least, I suspect it would work better with all those autumnal colours shining through.

Unfortunately there were no autumnal colours in that direction. Here is the colour version:

I thought he just didn't really stand out in that shot, which is why I tried the sepia. Maybe a square crop would work a bit better, losing some of the tree on the right.

The only time the stag went anywhere near autumnal foliage he was walking away from me, as in the last shot.

I prefer the colour version but I agree with your about him not 'standing out'. The deer looks slightly 'soft' (although the antlers don't) so it might just be a slight case of being very slightly out of focus or a little bit of movement? [edited to say - ignore that, may be my monitor and the colour one looks crisper than the monochrome one]

No.1 is my favourite though - good image and treatment.
