I take all my gear as hand luggage.

If it were going in the hold it would be in a Peli or flight case smile

All in hand luggage! There's no way I'd let some bag handler throw my kit around.

I thought hand luggage too, but maybe with the big lens, 100 - 400 well packed in suitcase.

Nick, do you take it as hand luggage, or in the hold?

Definitely hand luggage. Just been to Canada with my Billingham stuffed full of gear as my hand hand luggage with no problems. I'd be less than happy about the kit going in the hold.

Hand luggage. Not only do you get to keep an eye on it at all times, but you can get the camera out for any opportunities that crop up.

Hand luggage.

Funny enough I was just checking in for a flight to Edinburgh tomorrow and noticed that the hand baggage allowance on BA allows you to take up to 23kg, provided it is less than 56 X 45 X 25 cm.

I agree with everyone else - hand luggage is a must!...........another good thing to come out of digital bodies is that we no longer have to worry about images being scanned 'blank' by airport security.

Wow that's surprising, are you sure? I've had to check stuff on another airline because it was over 7kgs. Was told it was industry standard (makes sense in case it falls out of lockers etc.) but maybe that's not true?

When I joined a video crew on a 10-day job in Brunei the kit weighed about 1 tonne and we all had a wheeled flightcase each. Can't remember how much the excess baggage was! Silly times biggrin

Billingham 445, lapdog, camera body plus six lenses, speedlight, CF cards and hard disk drive, spare battery and charger, all documents, 'phone, book or three and pretend as you saunter up to the check-in that it's not really very heavy after all...

It's all academic what the size limit was when you're suffering from a bad back after the experience ! hehe
