Since I do a lot of printing I thought I would invest in some colour management hardware to profile my print to paper (some don't have ICC profiles). I use an R2400 which is a semi pro type printer which provides me with (mostly) cast free B&W images however when you print on lower end models B&W's come out with a cast which is normally green. I also use D92 (slowest ever printer) and a photo 890.
So what you get is a monitor calibration unit and a spectrophotometer for measuing colour patches.
The monitor calibration unit sits on the monitor and measures the colour and then creates an algorithim to correct the values it sees to the correct values

This is really simple to do and takes less than 10mins to do.
The production of ICC profiles for paper is just as simple but does take longer as you have to record each patch one at a time. you can record either 150, 225 or 729 patches plus a 238 extended gray patchs for improved B&W.
so you print these off with no colour managment and leave to dry before recording the patches.

Using this I was able to get cast free B&W prints from my D92.
If anyone would like a free profile for their printer let me know and I'll make one (for a limited time only lol )
