Lens add-on thingy

OK, another daft question from me....
Someone I met on hols showed me an attachment that goes on the end of my Canon 18-55mm lens to make it wider. It had a specific name, but I can't remember what it was....do you know?

I reckon a Sigma 18-200mm is next on my list now anyway. Seems to be a very good all rounder.
