8 months ago a friend of mine asked me if I would do his wedding for him. To upset the people that actually earn from weddings I did this for free, including the 2 trips to the church at a 300 mile round trip each time.

Anyway a few weeks ago I went into the church and found an issue. I could ramp up the ISO and trade off the shutter speed on my f4 for noise or I could get a fresh faster lens. After reading up on here and other places about the 85mm f1.8 (and loving the 50) I decided to get one.

This meant I could shoot at 200 with less noise but the issues of depth of field on photographing 2 objects at slightly different distances crept in but that was the artistic look I was after wink Still for free they better bloody be happy and sure they will.

Some slightly soft focus, lots of stress and movement with experience I would have shot at 800 and prob 5.6 and accepted the noise trade off but you live and learn and I hope I learnt a lot yesterday. If I was to ever do this I'd certainly want to shaddow a very reputable tog for a while to gain their knowledge but I dont ever fancy doing this again

I've done one wedding, for a very good friend, and although it came out really well I think one is enough...

I can still feel the stress now just thinking about it

That was really well done for a first attempt. Not sure I'd want to attempt it myself.

I've got 2 friends doing our photos in Feb. If they come out half as good as those, I'll be pleased!

Very good for a first go - it may have been your first wedding but it's clear you're used to taking photos. Luckily you seem to have had a benevolent vicar... see what you get when they insist you stay at the back of the church for the whole service!

And yes, light is a constant battle.

I'd say those are a great set and am sure the bride and groom will be very chuffed.

Very nice set of images, well done!

I did most of the shots at my sister in-law's wedding a year ago. It was one of the most stressful things I've ever done.

Cheers all!

Yes Martin so stressful, possibly more so as it was friends too. The icing on the cake was when one of the guests turned out to be a pro-tog who runs his own agency in Manchester! He had brought his 1dsmk3 and a few very nice lenses (not to shoot the wedding) and he did a few. I felt intimidated at that point but now the results are back am very happy to see mine side by side
