Ok this is annoying me now! After two hours i admit defeat. I have purchased a cheap flash, centon fh95 which for a tenner isn't bad! and a seagul SYK-3 flash remote trigger. Apparently the cameras built in flash should trigger the off camera flash but nope! What can i do!

Cheers

Leighton

This is the problem with cheap optical slaves.

Have you tried the setup in a low light, in your bedroom, set it up, curtains closed and turn off the lights?

I'm guessing a voltage mismatch.

Centon - Seagull - it's not looking good chap!

make sure the slave can 'see' the on camera flash. also, is there a setting on the unit to turn the slave on and off . should have one for when you have it on your camera-you don't want it going off every time someone else fires theirs!

Ah! I suppose it isn't completely useless, bulb mode, trigger from side. Other than that, no hope?

Just to let you know (i dont know if this means anything) but if i touch the one ofthe flashes hot shoe pins on the sensor, the flash fires. Is this a starting point?

That's a shame. Saying that I'd say it's probably a bit too much to be learning off camera flash as well as doing your first wedding.

I'd stick with on camera flash bounced/diffused if I were you.

If you are desperate you can borrow my radio triggers for the weekend but they may not be any better - you live in Clevedon right?

That's a good point, although i have played with off camera lighting before.

To be honest mate, i think its the flash, it is quite old and i don't think anything is going to trigger it, its a pain but im only asking 250 quid for the wedding so im not gonna go to great lengths.

thanks for the offer :]

yes Best advice I've seen all day. The last thing you want is to be farting about in front of 100 people trying to make it work. Think 'extreme stress' and you get the idea...

Cool, well i have just found one of the wires is snapped on this thing, bit annoying but hey-ho. I can get it to trigger the hot shoe flash now but only if i flash the in-camera flash within an inch of it.

confusing or what :S
