Portable DVD tuner advice

Few weeks ago I bought a Shinco portable dvd player. Its advertised that it will work as a tv with an additional tuner/digital box.
I have a Phillips digital receiver and was wondering if anyone knew if it would work - Im not sure the Shinco tuner is something different?
The player has a 3.5mm jack plug as av in, I assume if I get a scart to 3.5 jack then I should be able to receive tv?? I cant see that it would be able to differenciate between input devices?
