The OH is pestering me to come up with something she can get me for xmas this year, and as I've not long had the 450D she thinks a lens might be just what I need....

So, any and all recommendations are welcome - what lens would you buy on a £200 budget, bearing in mind I have the 18-55 kit lens, a Tamron 70-300 and recently bought the nifty fifty...

I think it was a bit over £200 but for my 400D I got the 18-50 f2.8 Sigma lens following recommendations on here and it is indeed fantastic.

I know it's the same range as the kit lens, but having a constant f2.8 is brilliant. It stays on my camera most of the time, I also have a long zoom Tamron lens and the nifty fifty, so much the same as yourself.

Hope that helps,

Ruari

I recently replace the kit lens with a 24-85 that I'm pretty happy with.

How about a flashgun or a tripod?

Will make a massive difference to your photography if you learn to stay away from the full auto modes.

I think my parents are getting me a flashgun and I bought myself a Manfrotto Modo Maxi 785B tripod a couple of weeks back - which I'm chuffed to bits with incidentally.

I'll have a look at the lens mentioned above, I'll stick some of my own cash towards it if needs be.

Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated.

I would just ask for the money and then put it towards an even better lens!

She's had a rethink, now getting me a battery grip and a couple of other bits. I'll be getting a lens myself, sp budget may well change in an upwards direction. Off for a shufty to spend the wages I'm going to take out this afternoon......
