Been out looking at new digital cameras today, I just need a point & shoot, with a decent zoom. I had a look at a couple of panasonics, both of which felt nicely made, one was an 8.1 meg, the other 10 meg resolution,

In the real world am I going to see any significant image quality differences between 8 & 10 megapixels, given that most of the time If I print pictures they are unlikely to be larger than A4, although I do sometimes make CDs of photos to view on the telly.

I am leaning towards the lower res as this camera had a wider zoom range (sorry cant remember model, but the 10 meg was a lx500).

Cheers for any tips

we got the panasonic lumix tz5 and are very impressed with it

it's got a 10x optical zoom, takes a lovely picture and is nice and compact.

i don't think you'd see much (if any) difference at normal pic size between 8 and 10 megapixels

10mp camera will probably have a lot more noise in night-time shots.

Go for the greater zoom, rather than increased pixel size. No point in having a few extra pixels if you can't get the shot in the first place...
