I realise that it may be that the cost of repairing a lens may be more than a new lens, but thought I'd ask anyway... To see what people thought..

I have the "stock" short lens (18-55), for the D50. But a lug on the lens has broken off at some time.. This means that the contacts from the lens don't always maintain contact with the camera body and so it won't register any light settings... Is there anywhere that people can recommend to find out how much it will cost to get such damage repaired? I am hoping that it wouldn't cost much to get it repaired and the rest of the lens is in fine working order..

Failing that maybe a new lens... smile Possibly a Sigma 18-200...??

You cold try getting a quote from Fixation: http://www.fixationuk.com/Fixation/Fixation%20-%20...

They did an excellent job on my 17-55 a few months ago. But as you say, you need to bear in mind the value of a the lens.

Don't know if this will help, but www.7dayshop.com occasionally have a sell off of old stock, they are based in Jersey I think, been using them years, occasionally get a bargain.

Just ordered another 40 Duracell Ultra M3 AA batteries for £13.99

Is this the same one as bundled with the D40? You might be better picking one of those up from ebay from someone selling the kit lens after an upgrade

True enough, it's about a £30-£40 lens used and you'll never get anyone to look at a repair for less than £50 if not £100...

May be a chance to get something a bit better, like an 18-70 for about £80 or so...

Buy a new (or used )one, flog old one on ebay as spares or repair. Knowing the fools on the bay you'll probably make a profit...

Isn't even worth getting a quote for getting it fixed IMO.
