Hi guys,

Does anyone know a good place to get an existing photo enlarged? I tried boots but they don't offer a very wide choice of sizes and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations. Anyone know a good local store or a website?
Any help would be much appreciated...

Cheers
Adam

What's the exact format of the photo now - negative, slide, 6x4 print?

I am sure we can help here...

Interpolation within Photoshop?

If you're looking to make a photo bigger so you can print it larger than it should do, this is the trick. Essentially it add pixels to the existing image, but at a price of making it a bit soft if you're not careful.

Thanks for your replies guys. I don't need to know how to do it personally, I just wanted some advice of where to get it done professionally? I don't have the kit to do it at home. I have designed a collage on picasa for my mum for xmas and it's a4 size, but I want to blow it up much bigger. All the pictures are good quality so they shouldn't distort. Ideally 20" x 30" or so in size.

Thanks in advance,

Adam

You don't need to get it done professionally.

Upload it to photobox and get them to print it for you. www.photobox.co.uk.

They will do any necessary interpolation (upsizing) for you anyway, but you may want to give it a try in Faststone first just to see what it will look like. I have had them do 20x30 prints for me from 8mp files (3500x2300) and they look just fine.

If you really want to do it yourself first to be sure, thing to do is download Faststone Image Viewer (it's more useful than the resizer) for free from www.faststone.org.

Open photo, resize it in that and make sure it is at least 6000 pixels on the long side (for a 20x30 that should be enough) - have a look at it there, then upload it.

If you're really nice, ROADRUNNER3 has a copy of the dogs danglies of upsizers, Genuine Fractals; so if you speak to him nicely he may do it for you. He has done some awesome 5 foot high canvases for me from images I took on a Canon 20D (8mp).

I'm thinking of sticking him some work with a couple of images from my 450D - my major worry was quality of image - but if you've got great results from 8mp then the 450Ds 12.2mp should be just fine.

Time to get onto his site and get it sorted.

I specialise in just doing canvasses - that way I can focus on getting the best possible result.
