Have been contacted by Schmap Guides to possibly use one of my photos in their 2009 Paris guide, they are short listing the photo and have asked for my permission to use it if accepted. I have read the T&Cs and they are fine.
Anyone else have any experience of them?

The photo is this one of the West front of Notre Dame

I got an email asking for one a while back and let them use it (New Town). It was a crap shot anyway.

I would be slightly cautious. Just recently i've had (not to brag) but 6 or 7 enquires about using my photos in books, guides, magazines, all from flickr.

I havent looked into it, but gut feeling theres some sort of scam going. So ive rejected any offer to use my photos.. although they have probably nicked it anyway. I wouldnt mind so much, but none of the enquires are english.

Thanks all, I'll have a look through the Flickr forum, it's not a forum I have used or was really aware of so thanks for the heads up.
4Hero have you had any feedback from your allowing them use?
Many thanks

You and everyone else on Flickr. They ask about each photo individually and they give credit, but they don't pay.

Scam ? No.
Cheeky ? Yes.

J111, from the forums it sounds like they make a lot of requests, sods law that they were the only viewer of that particular photo !!!! frownwink

Could this be anything to do with the Gettyimages scam, where they use a bot to find instances of images that belong to others (i.e. flickr albums) and then offer to take the images onto their system. They then write to the "offending" websites saying they are in breach of copyright and demanding several thousand pounds?

Cheeky!

I had an email from them many a month ago requesting the use of a photo.

As said by Neil above, my picture was also nothing special, it's representing the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff for the Welsh Rally.
I let them use it, had never herd of the site and never used it.

I get the odd email every few months through Flickr asking for the use of pictures. I had a small picture published in a book which came out a while back. Book came through the post like I had requested, I was accredited and paid a small sum for it. I'd forgotten all about it until it arrived.

I think I've another request for a Supercar's book being published, a few blogs, a charity wildlife magazine, for an artists impression/ sketch from...ummmm....

Normally say yes if they seem harmless.

Many thanks all, I have looked at what they do the number of emails they have sent me and the fact that the photo has no substantive value so I have agreed to put it forward. It might not get published as there are plenty of other photos of Notre Dame.

I agreed to the one I was sent as well. Most of the arguments on the Flickr forums seem to be around payment, or lack of it. I'm not out to make money from my photography and if I was, I wouldnt be hosting my work on Flickr

10 seconds work first: rotate the image a little clockwise to straighten it up, and clone out the dust spot.

They already have it saved on their site (questionable) and what you do is click on an accept/deny link so I dont think it can be altered once they've sent you the message

John, I thought that the version they have had been straightened as this version is from Pbucket and I had noticed the dust spot when I posted on here!
Andy, I think you are right that it cannot be changed after releasing it to them, however as a thumbnail it's their choice wink

Thanks for the interest, much appreciated.
