Afternoon guys.

In the new year (my birthday is the 26th of January for anyone who wants to send gifts smile,) I want to purchase a competent but reasonably priced lighting setup.

I will be looking to use it for small studio stuff, portraits etc.... However I would like to try some car location shots.

I really don't have a clue when it comes to this so any advice is appreciated smile

3 flashguns, 3 stands, some wireless triggers and get creative with homemade snoots, gobos and softboxes. That's the cheapest solution anyway. If you're feeling flush you can buy snoots and stuff from warehouseexpress and softboxes designed for flashguns.

Seen some very good portraits shot with flashguns used creatively, a la www.strobist.com

Also, as Dean's shown with his car stuff, flashguns are perfectly capable of doing the job and a lot easier to transport.

I've just bought a set from Bessel.

I went with the Home Studio kit (http://www.bessel.co.uk/home-studio-kit.html), so far had a week playing about with it and I'm really happy with my choice.

I'd highly recommend these lamps, I looked at the Interfit EXD200's but opted for the Bessel S200-D after using a friends at a local camera club shoot.

Next step is to find somewhere large enough to get the car in and take some shots of my baby!.

Recently I went the route that Bramley suggested having read the tutorials on www.strobist.com (lots of really useful info there). I already had a couple of flash guns, so scoured e-bay for wireless remote triggers, lighting stands, umbrella brackets and umbrellas. All brand new, came in at under £100. Seemed a bargain way of getting my own off camera flash set up. A third flash gun + accessories is on my wish list now...

If you go this route and need to buy new/additional flash guns, just make sure you get ones that allow you to manually control their output level.
