Looking for some advice regarding choosing a lens.
I have an eBay 15% off voucher to use that ends today and realised it'd be crazy not to use it for something photography related! wink
There are several lenses I've looked up on eBay, that I know I want.
But just looking for advice on which is the best deal.
I'm looking at 70-200F4, 17-40L, Sigma 10-20 (would like the canon 10-22 but looks like too much £) or possibly the 100mm Macro/60mm Macro if I can find one.
I know I want the 70-200F4 and reckon the 17-40 would make a nice addition to my 40D; not sure on the Sigma 10-20, is it a good lens? Reviews tend to suggest it's not quite as good as the Canon 10-22, what I really want to know is it wide enough to get a bit of a distorted fisheye effect? I'm not really interested if it isn't, because I want a lens that'll bend a little at the edge for 3/4 rear car shots smile
I do want a Macro but I think i'd be happy to wait a little longer for one, so that'd be my last choice.
But with regard to prices, I've found a 70-200F4 (all prices before the 15% discount) @ £350 in vgc 2nd hand, a 17-40 @ £400, Sigma 10-20 @ around £250 and the 100mm Macro around £275.
Which out of those represents the best value given the discount?
All are lenses I want and it just seems crazy to miss out on not using the discount voucher for a (relative!) steal on a lens!
Bizarre question I know, but I can't make my mind up!

Well a percentage discount will save you most on the most expensive lens...

True.
But someone needs to make the decision for me!! I can't make my mind up! wink
I'm interested to know what the 17-40L and Sigma 10-20 are like mostly; as I know I want the 70-200F4 and a Macro of some description. Although I would like to know opinions of how the 100mm and 60mm compare!
I quite like the idea of teh 17-40, although I would prefer either the 24-70 or ideally the 14-105 to replace my 28-135. They're too much money though! frown

The Sigma 10-20mm is a rectilinear lens; it is not designed to distort like a fisheye, although it may do to a small degree at the wide end. Probably not enough to notice unless you have a straight line (e.g. horizon, wall) in the frame. If you want the fisheye effect, a rectilinear lens, no matter how wide, will not do it. However, an image can look distorted with a very wide angle lens because it presents things in a way that you are not used to seeing.

Cheers Sam.
I'll cross that one off my list!
Unfortunately, there are no Canon fisheye lenses with an auction that's going to end in time! frown
I'm going to have a quick hunt for any other decent prices and if not, but the 70-200 F4 I'm watching.

Good, good because that's what I bought.
Including delivery for a very lightly used 2nd hand one (has the original box, bag, lens caps, hood and everything) after discount, it was £303! smile
Saves me a £100 or so!
Shall look forward to it's delivery! biggrin
