Afternoon Guys

Popped out for an hour as I finished early and blagged my way into Hornchurch Skatepark.

Could you give me some comments and criticism on my set. I haven't pasted every photo as I thought it would be easier for you guys just to click the link.

All taken wih my new toy - Canon 450d and a nifty fifty

Thanks

Much appreciated.

Cool Kids

Scott

p.s you don't have to leave the comments there, here would be appreciated.

Hi Scott,

that's Romford isn't it?

I've no particular C&C to give however I can offer a few tips...

With BMX photography you need to see where the rider has come from, and where they are going too to be able to understand what they are doing or 'how rad/sick/mental/cool they are'. Unless of course, it is obvious (dirt jumping)

You also want to be able to single them out in the frame, so having other riders, lurkers, parents, chav's in the shot is a bit of a no-no as it distracts from the rider.

Go low - They'll appear to be grabbing more air.

Go wide - get stuck right into the action, 10.5mm fisheye is perfect.

Don't go too mental with your angles, it can make tricks/airs look a tad odd.

Another one is timing. From the results you have on your Flickr it looks to me as if you don't ride yourself, as the shots are badly timed. For each trick, there is a point at where it is most 'clicked'. Just ask the cool kids to show you.

here's a few so you can see what I'm on about although, most will break at least all of those rules smile...

Dean your shots made mine look rather happy snaps.!

I understand what you are saying. I am not a rider no ... I intend on going back so I will take a wider lens.

Lowest I have is an 18mm I got wth the kit.

Will that be any use?

Get some flash into the faces too. I can't remember if it was here, or TheDVDForums, but I've seen some stuff by a chap called downhillbiker that really captures mountain biking well, and that's predominantly because he captures the expressions of the riders.

Love this shot dean.

Was the framing a cunning trick or a lucky incidental?
