Tempted to buy the Nikon AF-S VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED for my D80. Just wonderd what people think of it/ users/ the photos it can produce etc? Things to look for? It'll be mainly used for airshows/motorsport events.
Cheers,
Dave

I've got both of those (D80 and the 70-300) and been pretty happy with the lens. It's quite a beast though compared to the cheap 55-200 both in length and weight, and can be a little slow to focus.

Sometimes it feels like it's a bit too much, other times doesnt quite have the reach. I'm going to try a teleconverter on it at some point.

Here are some shots I've taken with it

Hi Dave,

I have one of those although it doesn't get a great deal of use, being what I call my 'airshow' lens rather than the best choice for weddings. However, I've no complaint with it and by all accounts it's better optically than the G and ED models which preceeded it. Ultimately the quality of the results will probably be 90% user abilty, 10% lens!
