Converting 35mm slides to digital images
Discussion
I have thousands of old family slides that I'd like to digitise - mainly so I can see the damn pictures properly!
What does the panel think of this? Or are there any other gadgest that will do it better/faster/cheaper?

Nope the gadget works really well, what you see is how the slides are. they were taken by a not very good photographer,my dad! many many years ago. I had about 300 slides to do some were s
te but some have come out really well. I'm well chuffed with it,just have no use for it anymore.

A few years ago, I bought a Minolta 5400 scanner (cost a LOT more than the aforementioned item) with the aim of digitising all my slides etc but despite good resolution, the slow speed of it prevented me getting much beyond the first few before getting very very bored!
Might have to have a look at one of these...

I have one of those which i bought to do my slides on, worked very well, now surplus to requirements. Cost me 50 quid pm me and make me an offer. a couple of samples straight from the scanner
One of these would be excellent for my Father for his birthday, Roy can I ask where you got yours from so cheap? I can only find them for £79.95Away from slides has anyone used the 35mm to digital (ie 35mm film processed straight onto a cd) service available at various processers, and were the results any good?
I have heard that the digital images produced, look as is they came from a very poor digital camera, and if so... may tip me over the edge towards a DSLR as 35mm is becoming an expensive pastime!
Thanks.

They're ok, but not great. I did this for some of my AS level work. Taken on a Canon EOS 300, then processed onto a CD and manipulated. The hi-res versions are clear enough to print upto A4 size, but they don't look very good on a monitor, especially as my shots were done in the dark and the noise shows (light trails).I have heard that the digital images produced, look as is they came from a very poor digital camera, and if so... may tip me over the edge towards a DSLR as 35mm is becoming an expensive pastime!

Unfortuantely, all my stuff is at school and I'm off this week, otherwise I would have posted up a couple of examples.
