Hi Guys,
I've finally got round to doing something with the huge glut of photos which are clogging up my Drive. I'd really appreciate any feedback...
Additionally if anyone is interested in some inexpensive automotive photography (including rig shots, I'm looking to build my portfolio - as such I'll be cheap! I'm based in Glasgow but can travel (within reason! - i.e I don't need too much of an excuse to organise a road trip)
Kind Regards and thanks in advance.
Craig.
oh - and here is the link: http://www.crispyimage.com

question how did you do the above image. its something i would like to do
its a 'rig' shot, camera is bolted to the car (usualy suction cups) on poles (usualy a specialy made 'rig') photo taken (usualy at relativly slow speeds) and the rig photoshoped out.Theres a guide floating round here somewhere.

The rig is basically a combination of a couple of glass lifters (suction cups), A heavyweight manfrotto monopod, a couple of bounce-card clamps and two machined collars which me turned up on a lathe.question how did you do the above image. its something i would like to do
This shot was taken outside a curry's at a retail park (we liked the blue light). It was shot with a D80 with the ubiquitous sigma 10-20mm (at the 10 end) - something like f/11 and a 3sec exposure while we pushed the car in a gentle arc.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the comments so far peeps. What do people make of the other rig shots? Apart from the scummy little sportka!
Thanks for the feedback guys,
I forgot to mention - I'm going to run it as a regular blog, with a couple of updates a week. So pop back from time to time or RSS subscribe...
I also intent to generate some tutorials - either a automotive rig manufacture and application; photoshop skills; long exposure; macro
Any preferences?
Cheers,
Craig.

If you're going to do a rig tutorial I think you need some examples where you've got the whole car in, as that is the hardest bit to get right.
It's worth knowing that these already exist as well, and would be a good place to look at for inspiration and also to make your article stand out from the crowd.

Thanks for the advice dobbo - I think the emphasis of a tutorial would be the construction of a cheap (under £80) rig rather than looking at the finer points of using one. In terms of fitting the whole car in, its a matter of a bigger rig to get the camera further from the subject which my little rig restricst me with (oh dear size does matter after all!)... This would obviously have cost implications on the rig and, as you have pointed out, there are plenty of tuts out there (I love that aussie sites stuff
) Maybe if the first one goes down well I could have a look at talking about a longer boom, with magnetic mounts and guy wires etc...
Thanks again for the feedback.
Craig.

It can be done very cheaply without the need for a tripod based system. I paid a fair bit for my rig, with hindsight I think it could be done for a lot less money.
A single boom arm with 2 suction cups is the best way to go I think, still I get decent results with mine, so I'm happy enough with it.
