40D on-board flash won't pop up
Discussion
As per the title really. The built-in flash on my 40D won't pop up, either in full auto mode, or in a manual mode when the flash button is pressed. The menu system reports "cannot do this whilst external flash is connected" when trying a couple of the options. Any thoughts? (Obviously the external flash is not connected, but has been recently and works fine).
Infact - If you look at the hotshoe very carefully - you'll see the springs that get pressed down when anything is inserted into it. There is a tiny pin under each spring, which acts as an ext. flash insertion sensor.
Check if one of these is stuck down, as it would then tell the camera that there's still an external flash connected and prevent the built in one from popping up
