Nikon Ml-L3 remote, drilling a hole through it

I have one of these, but I often tend to use it in places where if I drop it, it'll be gone forever, like over a ledge or bridge or something.

So, has anyone drilled a hole through one to put some string through, and if so, where's the best place to drill through? I haven't opened one up

Drill between the end of the battery tray and the battery (open the tray first to see where you need to aim)
