Was wandering what would be the best DSLR to start out with for some automotive photography as a hobby and what lense too. Any help and advice would be great thanks. Just doing some reading but a bit of help from some experienced people would definitely be a great help. Oh and price range of upto about £400, not a great amount but its all i can spare right now.

Oooo - I was all ready to spend £000's of your money for a moment!

Are you talking static shots (where you can determine distance/perspective) or moving targets at a distance?

IMO buy a cheap second hand body (400D will be great, get them for £200 second hand) and get a really good lens smile

Can't advise you on which model, but 'predictive tracking autofocus' would be a good thing to look out for.

Hi Roy, it's excellent on B/W negs but struggles with the contrast of colour slides. The rule of YGWYPF strikes again!

Realistically, for starting out any entry SLR will do what you are after. I started out with a 300D years ago and it still takes the same shots as I get with my newer bodys smile

My top tips:
  • Spend money on the lens...
  • A 2nd hand body can be a great deal (my 20D was traded into a camera store - turned out it was a backup for a wedding photographer and had only done 300 shots in its life!).
  • Remember whatever brand you buy you'll be 'stuck with' as the lenses etc will keep you with that brand... so do some research into past/future models of the brands to get a feel rather than just buying what looks best now.

any modern body will do, the lens is more important
