Morning all,

I've had a 400D for about a year and am looking to start taking my photography a tad more seriously. Currently only have the 18-55mm EF-S stock lense but would like a telephoto (up to 200/300mm) for taking wildlife/bird pics along with anything else that catches my eye.

I know nothing about lenses so does anyone have recommendations or advice and can I get a "decent" telephoto for under £300 (pref under £250)?

Thanks smile

Some great pics on here by the way

Lots of details here

There's also a sticky at the top with lens samples.

I adore my 70-300 IS USM 2. Do not underestimate the benefits of Image Stabilisation.

Much obliged.

Years of casual forum use and I still forgot to do a search, how embarassing...

+1.

Have a look at the EF-S 55-250 IS as well which fits more comfortably into your budger, a bit more plastic than the 70-300 but significantly cheaper and gets equally rave reviews.
