What can you not do on a 450d?

I to am toying with the idea of upgrading my 350D to either a 450D or a 40D.

I'm not convinced that there is enough extra spec to justify upgrading to a 450D (live-view that probably won't get used, sensor cleaning and more pixels) but I quite fancy the faster shutter speed and higher ISO range of the 40D but I don't really know what to do. I might be better spending the cash on some glass instead.

If you've got money to burn then do it. Otherwise though, unless there's something that you find limiting with your current camera that would be solved by a 40D or D80, then there's no point. I'm sure you can find plenty of other things to buy (lens, flash, battery grip, computer upgrade, tripod etc. etc. etc.).

If you already have a working body I'd upgrade any lenses first as these will probably be the biggest limiting factor in your set up (either angle or quality). Then think about a body upgrade in the future. I've upgraded to a 70-300 USM IS and a 10-22 USM and they have transformed my photography much more than a new body and standard lens would have.

I have a battery grip & 18-200mm tamron lens, maybe your right it may be a waste of money.

If you are happy with the camera body (and canon lens system) then I would certainly look at spending the money on new lenses / other kit smile

Cheers.

Forget the D80 in many ways it'd be a step back.

40D is a cracking camera but its only real advantage over the 450D is shooting speed (6.5fps vs 3.5) and the better AF system (apart from the bulkier body).

If your using a 18-200 your not likely to see any improvements at all realy.

I dont think (newish) people realy eralise what difference top end glass makes.

Spend the money on a good prime or f2.8 zoom you'll be amazed.

Hmm , I asked a similar Q about a week ago , finally plumped for the 450d , the only gain I could see was the 6.5fps which I wanted ,but will be carrying whilst cycling in the alps so the lighter weight swayed me. IF I get any good results I'll post them.
