Discussion
Spent some of the evening mucking about with lighting and a few objects that I had handy, I'm rather pleased with how these two versions of the same image came out. Both have been shot RAW, converted using Adobe RAW 4 and then adjusted using Exposure 2 in Photoshop. Constructive criticism is more than welcome.

Quite nice shots.
In the B/W shot I think reflections have affected the word 'baseball' in that the flash has reflected off the shiny surface and into the lens. A polariser can help, but it's not a major problem. You'll always get reflections off a sphere somewhere, particularly if lit from the side.
In the second one I think the white balance is a little cold (blue). Warmer might make the image more engaging?
I have a love/hate relationship with studio work; I'm keen to do it but I don't really like my results!!

Thanks for the comments guys.
Mikee ... I agree that the reflected highlight is a bit ugly, but as you say there will always be a highlight point somewhere on a sphere, next time I'll try to make sure it's not on the shiney lettering. The colour shot was deliberately made slightly cold, I thought it looked good.
