Hello all,

I have the potential opportunity to get some free (to me) training, and would like to do a good photography course.

I'm not interested in certificates and qualifications, but would love to have the chance to really learn (preferably hands-on) from some experts.

Are there such courses?
If anyone's done one before, what/who would you recommend?

Any info on the subject greatly appreciated...

These look quite interesting:

From enquiring, not as expensive as i expected either (£180ish for a one day course at GFoS with media access).

yeah... I'd be after a 1 or 2 day intensive sort of course rather than a prolonged evening class sort of thing...

Nobody else tried any of these??

(Midlands based would be best)

What sort of photography? I've done a course with Peak Photo Centre (landscape) but they do portrait and wedding too. Not cheap but a good course. Really depends whether you want 1:1 or group etc.

I have often thought about running a photo course for amateurs, and been asked to do so. The big problem is that everyone is at different stages to try and teach. Some will need to be shown how to turn the camera on, what as other are at the stage where they have sat down read the manual and understand how it all work, but want to be shown what to do.

Given that every one has such a range of different kit, it makes it hard to run anything constructive.

On the other two car forums that i visit (Lotus 7 Clubs Blatchat and the Midlands Lotus forum MLOC) I have got very close to getting enough people together to almost make it viable to run a weekend course. (This would have included a female Model (for decent portrait pictures), A nice sports car and a family set up (Mum, Dad and Kid) for people pictures. The idea being to teach people the basics in different techniques used in all three situations. (But people would have to have a basic understanding of their camera)

Most of day one would be classroom/studio based and day two would be on location.

The downfall so far has been what people would be prepared to pay and being able to get two days off to be able to do it.

I have been looking as well, as a newbie reading has only gotten me so far and I would be looking at a beginners course as well. Wether a two day intensive or a a 10 week evening type class, but everytime I think I find somewhere no one ever gets back to me. I think there is a real market out there for this type of stuff and I work teach adult ed and have written and designed my own courses and I can see the kind of content that would work well I just dont have the knowledge, I still need teaching..lol.

So far I have found meeting people through groups and friends and going out on a photoshoot event together and learning off them been my only way.

But I would be very interested if anyone had anything and I would be willing to travel also. Cost is always a factor of course but in my view I didnt pay £400 for a camera that I am probably only using 10% of its potential.

Photoshop courses are alse few and far between and when you find one they are over subscribed.

Photoshop you can most definately teach yourself (with the aid of online tutorials (free) and a bit of forum searching etc etc....
I wouldn't pay for a course on that.

The camera related stuff though would be good.
I know how to use the camera (it's functions etc) but would love some professional hands-on guidance on how to make great photos out of various situations..
